Der Kammermusikkatalog von Jörn Arnecke ist mit 23 Werken für unterschiedliche Besetzungen bereits recht umfangreich und vielseitig. Das zweite Streichquartett mit dem vielsagenden Titel 'Inschriften' entstand im Jahr 2003 für das Auryn Quartett. Dass Inschriften mit Abschied und Tod verbunden seien, sagt der Komponist, dass man sie förmlich einritzen könne wie auf einem Grabstein, drücke sich in schon in der Dynamik aus. Sehr leise beginnt das Stück. Und es versteht sich als eine Art 'Inschrift' für den von Arnecke zutiefst bewunderten Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, dessen 200. Geburtstag wir in diesem Jahr gedenken. 'Das Verborgene jedoch verlangt nach Erklärung', so Arnecke weiter. 'Ein Stück im Mendelssohn-Zyklus: Mir kam spontan die Idee, mich nicht nur musikalisch vor Felix zu verbeugen, sondern auch vor Fanny. Und so berühren meine 18-minütigen 'Inschriften' in gleicher Weise Felix' Streichquartett Es-Dur op. 12 (1829) und Fannys Quartett aus dem Jahr 1834; dieses steht in derselben Tonart und weist viele Bezüge auf - ein echtes 'Schwesternwerk'.' Er habe nur Spuren gelegt, die Zitate seien in seine Musik eingewoben. Lediglich zwei Takte sind komplett vierstimmig aus den Quartetten entnommen, ein Takt von Felix und ein Takt von Fanny - sie stehen an zentraler Stelle direkt nebeneinander. Die Zitate bleiben im Hintergrund: Sie sind vorhanden, lösen sogar die Prozesse des Stückes aus, aber sie wirken im Verborgenen.' --------------------------------------------------------- The Chamber music catalogue of Jörn Arnecke is already very extensive and multifarious with 23 works for various ensembles. The Second String Quartet with the meaningful title 'Inscriptions' was composed for the Auryn Quartett in 2003. 'The fact that inscriptions are connected with farewell and death,' says the composer, that one could literally carve them as on a tombstone, is already expressed in the dynamics.' The piece begins very softly. And it is understood to be a kind of 'inscription' for Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, profoundly admired by Arnecke, whose 200th birthday we commemorate this year. 'What is concealed, however, demands an explanation,' Arnecke continues. 'A piece in the Mendelssohn cycle: I spontaneously had the idea of not only musically bowing before Felix, but also before Fanny. And thus my 18-minute 'Inscriptions' are based in equal measure on Felix's String Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 12 (1829) and Fanny's Quartet from the year 1834; this is in the same key and shows many connections - a genuine 'sister work.' He has only given traces; the quotations are woven into his music. Only two bars are completely taken from the Quartets, in four-parts - one bar from Felix and one bar from Fanny - they are located at a central place next to each other. The quotations remain in the background: they are present and even trigger off processes in the piece, but their effect is hidden.
